In the lay man’s terms cancer is suposedly a disease that always targets the old. But despite all beliefs, it is an established fact that cancer can attack any person of any age group. Child are no exception to this condition and hence should be especially be taken care.

One such type of cancer that is found to be particularly common among child is the blood cancer. Particularly speaking Leukemia. Leukemia is a variety of blood cancer, that attacks the bone marrow, a substance usually found in the long bones of the body and responsible for making blood. The RBC’s, WBC’s, platelets and plasma that comprise blood are all generated in the bone marrow.

Once this disease takes it’s grip, the person suffers from abnormally high levels of WBC’s in the blood.

The dreadest part of the disease is that the child, mainly below the age of 12 years are the main victims of this disease. Alone in the US, there are about 2500 cases of child leukemia every year, leave alone the total number of cases including adults as well.

As said above, leukemia attacks the bone marrow, and as the cancer progresses, the cancer spreads to the nearby lymph nodes and also to the nearby lymph nodes.

A varied number of symptom that may often point to a developing case of leukemia are as follows :

* Persistant anemia. This occurs as the abnormal cancerous cells are iffecient or insufficient in carrying out their function.
* Fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting are also some of the other factos that may suggest a case of blood cancer.
* Lack of enough amount of platelets in the blood mean that even the slightest of cuts and bruises may lead to heavy bleeding.
* General symptoms such as headache, weaknesses are not to mention an important part of the symptom list.

All the aforesaid conditions may point to lesser dangerous health conditions. But as always, if the symptoms persist even with proper medication, seeing a specialist is the best thing to do.

In the current stage of medical science, the blood cancer is not known to have any preventive measures, since this type of cancer doesn’t relate to any lifestyle issues.
